What do you do?
I’m currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance at Sunway University and part time chess coach.
When did you start to play chess?
I started playing chess by the age of 10.
How did you get to know about the chess game?
I first knew it when my siblings and I were asked by my neighbour whether we wished to learn chess or not. And at that time, we didn’t know much about chess, just that it seems to be a fun and interesting game. So, we decided to start learning it. And thus, our chess life begins.
Where did you get chess training?
I got chess training mostly from online, or even during our school co-curriculum sessions.
Did you take any chess coaching?
Yes. I’d learnt from a few coaches during my school days.
Why do you continue to play chess?
Chess is a fun game that will actually train our brain to calculate and think of the best way to defeat our opponent. These will boost our planning skills too.
Is chess more of a passion or has it become a winning symbol to you?
I think both passion and winning symbol.
Who encourage you to play chess?
My families and friends. They’d encouraged me a lot.
How many tournaments have you took part in?
Quite a lot but I can’t remember how many.
Where did you go to attend chess tournaments?
Just depends on where the national events were organized, like Perak, Kuala Lumpur or Johor.
Did you attend tournaments with your parents?
Not really, because my parents don’t really know how to play chess. Normally, I’ll attend the tournaments with my siblings.
What was your biggest win so far?
2nd in MSSM individual
What have you gained from the chess game?
Problem solving skills, strategic thinking and also patience. A chess game is like our life, every move has its advantages and disadvantages. Even if we had made some mistakes, we still need to move on and try to find a solution to escape from the bad situation.
What have you gained from joining chess tournaments?
Meeting new friends from different places and enjoying the whole tournament. Also, I was able to gain experiences through playing chess with different people.
